It is my honor to introduce myself as Linda O'Shaughnessy, Principal of P.S. 88Q. There is never a time that the words, "I am the Principal of P.S. 88Q," do not humble me. I hold many titles: mother, teacher, wife, daughter, sister, and principal. Each is sacred and important to me.
I am a born and bred Brooklynite and a proud product of the New York City Public School system. My years at P.S. 199K, Hudde Junior High School, and Edward R. Murrow High School immersed me in a diverse, rigorous, and inclusive educational environment. I began teaching in 1993 in Brooklyn, working with students from second grade through middle school. Fate brought me to Queens, where I joined District 27 in 2007. I loved my years at P.S. 97Q, but when leadership called, I answered. After serving as an Assistant Principal at Mosaic Pre-K Centers in District 24 for three years, I was offered the principalship at P.S. 88Q in August 2018. My initial reaction was simple: "I'm home."
As I begin my ninth year as Principal of P.S. 88Q, that feeling has never changed. It continues to be the privilege of a lifetime to serve this incredible community of students, families, and staff.
There is so much to be proud of at P.S. 88Q. Simply walking through our halls, visiting classrooms, or watching students play in the schoolyard tells a powerful story about who we are. What would you hear at P.S. 88Q? Music, laughter, curiosity, thoughtful questions, and meaningful conversations. What would you see? Art, writing, collaboration, projects, dance, performances, and joyful learning.
The 2026-2027 school year brings tremendous excitement and opportunity. We continue to build on our outstanding academic success, including some of the highest New York State ELA and Math scores our school has achieved in more than a decade. The future of P.S. 88Q is bright.
We are proud to offer a vibrant early childhood program, including 3-K and Pre-K classes that provide a strong foundation for our youngest learners. Our thriving ICT/STEM program continues on every grade level thanks to the support of an innovative District 24 grant. We offer Gifted and Talented opportunities for our upper grade students and remain proud to be a NEST school, supporting students with autism in inclusive settings. Our Dual Language program continues to grow, giving students the opportunity to become bilingual and biliterate while celebrating their cultural identities. We are also a proud IRead School, providing support for students in early literacy.
Our arts programs continue to flourish with music, visual arts, theater, and dance. Students also enjoy learning in our STEM Lab, beautiful library, school garden, and a variety of clubs and enrichment opportunities that help every child discover their passions and talents.
At P.S. 88Q, we believe every child deserves to feel seen, valued, challenged, and inspired. Together, with our dedicated staff and supportive families, we are preparing students not only for academic success but also for a future filled with possibility.
I look forward to another amazing year of learning, growth, and partnership with our school community.
