A Message From Mrs. O’Shaughnessy

It is my sincere honor to begin my second year at P.S.88Q as your Principal. It continues to be a humbling feeling knowing that I get to be part of one the most enthusiastic, dedicated, and caring school communities. I am blessed to share this role with two INCREDIBLE Assistant Principals, Mrs Lowe and Mrs. Palesty. I am so confident that this year will be even better than last year.

I am excited about some new and incredible things going on at P.S. 88Q. Our school has a new logo, created by one of our fabulous parents and School Leadership Team member ( Mrs. Silonga) and our school motto was created collaboratively by all School Leadership Team Members (staff and parents).

We are proud to become part of the CS 4 All initiative (Computer Science For All). Some of our staff members as well as myself have been attending training this summer and will be part of a multi- year plan to implement this fun, exciting, rigorous experience for all grades. Below is the link to see what it’s all about !

We are also expanding our Existing Pre-K 4 All program. This year we will be adding two sections of special classes (8:1:2 class setting) for our youngest learners. The Pre-K 4 All program has been such a success, and we are excited to be growing !

Our school calendar will be filled with many opportunities for families to join in on all the upcoming events we have planned for this school year. I look forward to seeing you all at my monthly Breakfast with Mrs. O’Shaughnessy (First Monday of every month) and Coffee with Mrs. O’Shaughnessy (30 minutes before the start of every PTA meeting). It’s a great time to just come, meet the other families, hear what’s going on , and ask me ANYTHING! I will also be starting Family Game Night once a month. It’s a great time to come back, play some old fashioned games with the kids, meet other families and just have fun ! No screen time here, we have games for all ages from Candyland to Operation, Monopoly, Scrabble, Chess and many more.

Our teachers have been busy planning and preparing for this school year. Our first Back to School Night is September 17th from 4:30-7:30, and teachers will be sharing the details of your child’s curriculum at that meeting. Each classroom will have a brand new classroom library with books on various reading levels that children can read for pleasure, read during literary centers and independent reading. We are also building a library/ media center , and will be looking forward to an official ribbon cutting ! Details to follow. Students will be returning to updated technology. Each classroom will have access to a full class computer cart for project based research , I-Ready , MyOn, and publishing.

We are so looking forward to the following amazing programs that make P.S. 88Q the extraordinary school that it is :

Encourage your children to become involved with …

  • Partnering With Parents
  • The Law Club
  • Disney Theater Production
  • The Seneca Scoop
  • Student Council
  • Wellness Committee

The Pay It Forward Program

Oliwia Wasik and Marina Sorial. Class 5-410

My partner and I (Oliwia) recently interviewed Mrs. O’Shaughnessy about the Pay It Forward Program. Mrs. O’Shaughnessy said, “The Pay It Forward Program is doing something for someone else and expecting nothing back.”

“Everyone in the school and outside the school can participate in the program.”

Mrs. O’Shaughnessy

The Pay It Forward Program is very important because doing something nice for someone, makes you feel nice. It creates a domino effect.” Many of our classes have already “Paid it Forward” to other classes. Visit the bulletin board by the elevator on the 1st floor to see what has gone on!!!
