Dear P.S. 88 Families, September 10, 2019
Welcome back! I am so excited about the 2019-2020 school year. It is my sincere honor to begin my second year at P.S.88Q as your Principal. It continues to be a humbling feeling knowing that I get to be part of one the most enthusiastic, dedicated, and caring school communities. I am blessed to share this role with two INCREDIBLE Assistant Principals, Mrs. Lowe and Mrs. Palesty. I am so confident that this year will be even better than last year.
Thank you all for a very smooth school opening. As a mother myself, I know how hectic those first few days may be. Getting back into the routine, getting all the school supplies, and of course those first day jitters, for everyone! This past August, I took my youngest daughter to college in Florida for her freshman year. It is very hard to let go, but as they say, give your children roots and wings. It is safe to say, I had a special spot in my heart for all those kindergarten students with tears in their eyes as they let go of your hand on that first day. Those tears quickly ended, as mine did on my flight home, but that moment is so hard. Although each one of you let your child’s hand go at the arrival gate, please know you are on this journey with your child. You are a major part of P.S. 88 and we want you to be a vital component. There are many opportunities for you to be involved, and we welcome you!
As your children settle into the first few days of school, you may have many questions. There are many people to help you. Your child’s teacher is always able to answer many of those questions. Sign up for the classroom apps they use to help communicate. Our amazing parent coordinator (Ms. Ramos: firstname.lastname@example.org) can help you as well. As always, I can be reached at email@example.com. Also, our PTA President Donna Drazila (firstname.lastname@example.org) can be reached for any questions. Please check our website ps88q.com, our Facebook PS88q PTA, and our Twitter PS88Q.
Our school calendar will be filled with many opportunities for families to join in on all the upcoming events we have planned for this school year. I look forward to seeing you all at my monthly Breakfast with Mrs. O’Shaughnessy (First Monday of every month) and Coffee with Mrs. O’Shaughnessy (30 minutes before the start of every PTA meeting). It’s a great time to just come, meet the other families, hear what’s going on, and ask me ANYTHING!
Our teachers have been busy planning and preparing for this school year. Our first Back to School Night is September 17th from 4:30-7:30, and teachers will be sharing the details of your child’s curriculum at that meeting. The night will be divided in half as follows: 4:30pm-5:00pm and 6:00pm-6:30pm (Auditorium, Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year with Mrs. O’Shaughnessy) 5:00pm-6:00pm, 6:30pm-7:30pm, Meet the Teacher in classrooms.
