Hello to the entire P.S. 88Q family. It has been an honor to represent you as your State Senator. As a member of the Senate Education Committee, and a father of two children in the elementary public school system, I hold educational issues as a high priority for me.
This past legislative session, your state government heard the concerns of parents, teachers and administrators regarding the Common Core testing and made the following changes: Eliminated testing for grades K-2, reduced instruction time for tests to allow teachers the flexibility to concentrate on other subjects, decided that state tests are to be used for data purposes only and not for student promotion or transcripts, eliminated the transfer of personal student information, and for the first time, gave parents and teachers the chance to get copies of actual test questions and results. I was also pleased to support a state budget this year that increased funding for our schools and libraries.
If I can be of any assistance to you, please call my office at 718-497-1630. Thank you for making P.S. 88Q a jewel in this great city.
