Dear P.S.88 Families,
My name is Linda O’Shaughnessy and I am excited to introduce myself as the Interim Acting Principal for P.S. 88. I am honored and humbled to be selected for this most significant role, and elated to join the P.S. 88 community. I want to introduce myself to you and tell you a little about who I am.
I have been a teacher for 24 years. I am lucky to have found my passion for teaching and learning early on, and have been blessed to call this passion my work. I am a product of the New York City Public School system, and chose to “give back” to the system that helped me become who I am today. I started teaching in Brooklyn, where I live. Having taught every grade from Pre-K to 7th grade, both general education and special education, I feel that the best part of teaching is the learning you do alongside your students. During these 24 years of teaching, I also became a mother to two girls. My daughters are now 19 and 17 years old, and balancing motherhood and work is always the challenge, but one I am grateful for. Five years ago I made the decision to pursue a leadership role. I became an Assistant Principal in District 24 in 2015, and it is a role I am extremely proud of. I was part of an amazing team that opened up 18 Pre-K Centers within District 24. Being part of the mayors initiative to provide a Pre-K seat to every four year old was a dream come true. Joining the P.S. 88 team, working collaboratively with teachers, families and the community is something I am extremely excited for. My heart is in elementary education, and feel that having a successful start in your educational career provides students with immeasurable opportunities.
My main motivation for becoming a leader was to create an environment where staff, students, and families feel inspired and passionate about teaching and learning. A school is indeed a second home for all. I am looking forward to meeting with all of you and learn more about the amazing school community I am joining. Your children are always my priority, and getting to know them is my goal. During the year, you will be just as big a part of this journey as your child. I strive to create a community of families who share experiences, knowledge and learn together. As a parent, I know how important it is to be part of the school experience, and I value each one of you. I will have a monthly “Coffee with Mrs. O’Shaughnessy” where all families are welcome and you can ask me anything. You can always reach me via email. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org. More information will be forthcoming on an evening meeting where I can introduce myself and the staff formally.
To the families, I look forward to meeting you all. To the students, I hope you are enjoying your summer playing and reading with your friends and family. It will be a fun year learning together!
Enjoy the rest of your summer!
Mrs. Linda O’Shaughnessy
