Math is around us everywhere. When children make real world connections to mathematical concepts, learning is more concrete. Our students have a conceptual understanding of mathematical concepts make connections to how math lives in everyday life. Our students are engaged in rigorous tasks, encouraged to think, take risks, use their creatively and prior knowledge, and use their critical thinking to understand mathematics. We use the Go Math Curriculum
In addition, we use Exemplars, as a real world problem solving tool. Exemplars allows students to use specific problem solving strategies to solve multi step word problems. Students must think first, what must they know to successfully approach a problem. They reflect on the processes as well.
