Breakfast, Lunch and Recess

Breakfast In The Classroom

All students in grades Pre-K through Grade 5 are provided with breakfast in the classroom everyday. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and skipping it has both short and long term effects. It can make a child restless, tired, and inattentive. It can also contribute to tardiness, poor attendance, and overall lower grade performance. By serving Breakfast in the Classroom everyone stands to benefit. Students are ensured a nutritious and healthy breakfast needed to think clearly, concentrate on learning, and perform better in class.

Breakfast In The Classroom is Part of the School Day

School begins at 8:00 a.m. everyday. Your child will be marked late if they arrive after 8:00 a.m. During breakfast in the classroom, instruction and school routines are in place. For example, classes participate in a read aloud, independent reading, morning routines, math games, whole class discussion and small group activities. It is an extremely important part of the day, and should not be missed. Attendance is taken at 8:00 a.m., so to prevent your child from being marked late, please be in school on time.

Lunch

Each student is provided with a free school lunch everyday. It is extremely important that each family completes the school lunch form to ensure we continue to receive Federal Funding which supports our children. Please complete as soon as possible. We pride ourselves in having a 100% return rate every year. Here is the link:

Each month families will get a paper copy of our calendar, and on the back will be the school menu. The menu is also online and on the school foods app (NYC school foods Feed Your Mind). Please let us know if your child has any allergies to food. We take allergies, food safety, and student health very seriously.

Recess

Students participate in recess every day in the schoolyard. Our amazing staff have a variety of activities for the students (chalk, bubbles, balls, hula hoops, games). Recess is a wonderful time for students to engage in free play, but safety is absolutely the priority. To avoid student injuries, playing tag or running at full speed is not allowed. We want all students to have fun, and be safe. When the weather does not allow the students to go outside, we have many activities for the students inside. There is a painting station, arts and crafts, board games, legos and many other activities.
